This month’s topic is “Ignite your passion”. What ignited your passion for English? My passion for the Japanese language and Japan was ignited when I was in high school. I was 16 years old, and studying French. I applied to do a home stay, and had a dream of doing a home stay in Paris! How romantic! Ha ha.
But in the end, when I applied for the home stay program, I was given the chance to go to Japan instead… Wow! It was a bit of a shock, but it also the best thing that had ever happened to me. I went to Japan (Okayama) for 6 weeks over the summer school holidays here, so it was cold, and snowy, and I had to go to school!! Despite all this, I had the most amazing experience, and it ignited my passion for the Japanese language.
My home stay was so amazing, that I was determined to return to Japan. After high school, I studied Japanese at university, and returned to Japan. I did some English teaching work, and they led to the work that I am doing now! Work which I love, and am grateful for each and every day!

I wonder what would have happened if I had gone to France instead!
