☆ vary  変化する
============================
There are two ways to use today’s verb. To change or To differ.
If something varies or you vary it, it becomes different or is changed. For example: “You are welcome to vary the content.” Or “The cost varies depending on the amount you buy.”
The second way to use vary is when talking about things that are different from each other. This can be a great tool for marketing! “Items may vary slightly as they are all handmade, so each one is an original.” Wouldn’t you rather buy something that varies because it is handmade and an original, rather than something that varies just because someone made a mistake during production? 🙂
Another way marketers use this is to tell you that books vary from earlier versions, or countries. For example, there is an Australian author that I love, but when her books are published in other countries such as the UK and US, the content varies. Not much – but things are changed like the seasons and the start of the school year. When Harry Potter was released there were changes made to the US editions, so the contents vary a little. If you were a collector, this kind of information would make you want to buy all the different editions just to find out how they vary…
Would you ever buy two of something because they varied in some way? What would you buy and why?
Bye,
Chris
