Today’s word is often used in the phrase, “in all honesty” and this is used to soften the words that are being spoken and to emphasize sincerity. For example:
In all honesty, I wish it had never happened. (to emphasize regret)
In all honesty, aren’t there already too many similar products? (to soften the words that you think the product idea is not such a great idea)
In all honesty, I didn’t think I’d be able to sleep. (for example, maybe they watched a horror movie and felt scared, or maybe they were at a hotel and worried that the bed was too hard. This sentence implies that in the end though, they were able to sleep well.)
Of course, it can be used on its own too. For example:
His greatest virtues are his integrity and honesty.
Honesty is the best policy!
In a fit of honesty he apologized for his actions.
