============================
Do you watch the news on TV? Do you have kids and if so, do you let them watch the TV news? Recently because of all the horrible things happening in the world, (planes being shot down, war, crashes etc.) I rarely watch the news. I read the news online sometimes, but I don’t watch it on TV, and naturally I don’t let my kids watch it either.
Recently though, I heard that many parents let their children – even very young kids – watch the TV news because it teaches them to be compassionate. In other words, these parents believe that their child will be a more compassionate person if they watch other people suffering in war and so on.
Do you agree?
Honestly, I think that watching the news will just make children think that the world is a scary and dangerous place. Instead I would rather they learn to be compassionate and have empathy by reading books and using their imagination. The main thing the news can teach us is that we are very lucky to live in a safe place, without wars or guns. What do you think? Can people learn to be compassionate through watching the news?
Bye,
Chris
