If you try to appease someone, you try to stop them from being angry by giving them what they want. If you’re not familiar with this word, you might know some other more common words to use instead, such as “calm someone down” or “quiet someone down.” Two other words that are often used are “pacify” and “placate”.
If you’re not familiar with any of these words, why not make a Mind Map to help you remember them. Put the Japanese word in the center, and then on the branches you can have the English words. You could also write down words that have the opposite meaning such as “aggravate”, “provoke” or “incite.” And of course, check your dictionary for more.
