============================
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Today’s word is rather appropriate for Valentine’s Day, isn’t it? Nowadays in English, the word “partner” is becoming very common, even for people who are actually married – they will often say, “this is my partner, Steve” rather than say, “this is my husband, Steve.” Or “this is my partner, Amanda” rather than “this is my wife, Amanda.”
Why do you think that is? I guess it is probably because as people become more aware and accepting of different kinds of partnerships, not just the traditional “husband and wife” for example, the word “partner” is becoming more appropriate and easier to use. What do you think? Is the situation changing in Japan too?
Bye,
Chris
