How often do you get to use English in a “real” situation?
That might sound like a silly question – most of my students
say, “never!”… they say, “I only learn English at in class, so
I don’t have a chance to use it in a real situation. Is this how
you feel too?

You know what I think? I think any time that you use English,
whether it is in an English class, or to use the internet, or to
speak with another Japanese person for practice, or to actually
communicate with a foreigner who cannot speak Japanese…I
think that all of these situations are real situations, and you are
using real English in them!

So don’t think you don’t have a chance to use English – you can
create chances in your everyday life. Using English doesn’t just mean
speaking with a native speaker!

現実的に、英語を使う場面はどのくらいありますか？
おかしな質問に聞こえるかもしれませんが、ほとんどの生徒さんが“全くない”と答えます。
英語はレッスンで習うだけで、現実のシチュエーションでは使うチャンスがありません、と。
あなたもこのように感じているのでしょうか？

私の考えはこうです。
英語のレッスンであっても、インターネットを使う時であっても、あるいは練習で日本人同士で英語を話す時であっても、また実際に、日本語が話せない外国人とコミュニケーションを取る時でも…英語を使う時はいつでも“現実のシチュエーション”で、リアルな英語を使っているのです。

ですから、英語を使うチャンスがないと思わないでくださいね。
日常生活の中でチャンスはいくらでも作れます。
ネイティブスピーカーと話すことだけが、英語を使うことではないですからね！
