In Western culture, it is quite common for children to
leave home around 18 to 20 years old. I think this is younger
than the average in Japan, am I right? The main reason for
leaving home at a young age is to establish your own identity.

In Western culture, having your own identity is important, because
an “individual” is considered more important than a group. The reason
for this is that it is believed that only the individual has the ability to
reason. Groups cannot reason because there is no “group brain”, only
individual brains within the group. What do you think of this idea?
How does it compare to Japanese culture?

欧米の文化では、18歳か20歳で家を出るのが普通です。
日本のこどもが家を出る年齢よりも若いのではないでしょうか。
若くして実家を出る主な理由は、自分のアイデンティティーを確立するためです。

欧米では、自分のアイデンティティーを持つことがとても重要です。
というのも、欧米では団体やグループよりも個人が重視されるからです。
“個人”だけがものごとを論理的に考えられると信じられています。
団体の“グループ脳”では論理的に考えられず、団体の中の個人だけが出来ることだからです。
この考えに対して、どう思いますか？
日本の文化と比べていかがでしょうか？
