We often talk about “living in the now”, right? But have you ever
heard today’s expression, “live in the past”? What we mean by this
is that someone dwells on things that happened in the past and
doesn’t participate in the present, and doesn’t plan for the future.

An interesting thing to note is the word, “dwell”, you could also say that
someone who lives in the past, “dwells” in the past. And “dwell” is a
formal way of saying “live”, and the noun, “dwelling” actually means
“house” or a “place where someone lives”. So the idea of someone
“dwelling” or “living in the past” really does give the image of them
living, not just emotionally, but also physically in the past.
