☆ humble 謙虚な

============================

Today’s word is often used in two interesting ways. Firstly,
when you want to emphasize your opinion, it is common to say,
“In my humble opinion…” However, the person that says this
usually does not feel humble at all. So it is almost like sarcasm.

For example, if someone said, “In my humble opinion, this is the
best sushi restaurant in town.” the nuance is that they didn’t believe
that any other sushi restaurant was worth going to.

One more common use is “to eat humble pie”. If you eat humble pie, it
means that you have realized you made a mistake and are admitting to
others that you were wrong. For example: “John was forced to eat humble
pie and apologize to Sarah at the meeting.”

See you,
Chris

“In my humble opinion…”

“In my humble opinion, this is the best sushi restaurant in town. ”

John was forced to eat humble pie and apologized to Sarah at the meeting.
