☆ vital　不可欠な

It’s a year since the Tohoku disaster. It’s been a long hard year for
many people and things are still not easy for them in the north. Japan
has come a long way, and there is a lot that the rest of the world can
learn from Japan.

However, there are many things that are vital for their everyday life that they
still don’t have. I often get requests from volunteer agencies for socks and
toothbrushes. I can’t even imagine life without these simple daily necessities.
And yet, the people of Tohoku are getting by day by day without these vital things.
I am really in awe of the Japanese survivor spirit. I hope your day is filled with
joy and happiness, despite the sadness that I am sure everyone is feeling today.

東日本大震災から1年ですね。
多くの人にとってこの1年は長かったでしょうし、まだ東北では大変な思いをしている人もたくさんいると思います。
日本にとっては長い道のりですが、世界中が日本から多くを学んでいます。

しかし未だに日常生活に不可欠な物が足りていないようです。
私はよくボランティア団体から靴下や歯ブラシの寄付の連絡を受けます。
日常に必要なこれらのものがないなんて、想像できません。
しかし東北の人々はこれらの不可欠なものなしで日々を送っているのです。
私は、日本人のサバイバル精神には畏怖の念を抱いています。
今日、皆が感じている悲しみを乗り越えて、喜びと幸福でいっぱいの日々が訪れることをお祈りしています。
