Oh, what a shame! I wish this was tomorrow’s word, so that
I could say, “occasionally February has 29 days, instead of
28.” Lol.

In English, a year with 29 days in February is called a “leap
year”. This actually always struck me as strange, because I imagine
“leaping over” the 29th day – in other words, there is no 29th in a
Leap year… but in fact it’s the other way around. Perhaps we “leap
onto” the 29th day!!

What is a leap year called in Japanese?

あら、残念！今日の言葉「occasionally(たまに)」が明日の言葉だったらよかったのに…
そうしたら、「2月は、たまに29日の年がある」と言えましたね。笑。

英語では2月29日まである年を「leap year」と言います。
実はこの言い方、いつも少し妙に感じていたんですよね。
というのも、29日を「leaping over(飛び越える)」する、つまり、「leap year」に29日はない…というイメージがわくからです。
実際は、逆ですね。
29日に「leap onto(飛躍する)」という意味かな？
