☆ embrace　抱きしめる

In Western culture, when people meet for the first time they
usually shake hands. However, after that first meeting, women
often embrace or hug each other. Of course, it depends on the
person and the situation, but it is not unusual for women to embrace
when they meet.

Interestingly, it’s becoming more common for men to embrace
each other, too! But the way men embrace is a little different. It
usually involves only one arm, and a pat on the back, rather than
a “full” hug… there’s even a name for it, a “man hug” or a “dude
hug”! 🙂

欧米の文化では、初めて出会った人とは握手をします。
そして2回目以降は、お互いに抱きしめたり、ハグすることが女性には多いようです。
もちろん相手や状況によりますが、女性が出会った人を抱きしめるというのは、そう珍しいことではありません。

面白いことに、男性同士で抱きしめ会うという光景も目にするようになってきました。
しかし男性のやり方は、少し違います。実際に抱き合うのではなく、通常は腕だけを回し、背中を軽くたたくという感じです。これには、“man hug”とか“dude hug”という名称もあるのですよ。
