There are many borrowed words in English, just like there are
in Japanese. In Japanese, these words are usually written in
katakana, so you can easily know that they are not originally
Japanese words. In English, it’s not so easy to tell whether
a word is from another language, and which language it is from.

Do you know where “ballet” comes from? It comes from the French
language, but in fact the original word is “balletto” from Italian.
In Italian, “balletto” means “a little dance.” The French created the
word “ballet” and also developed “ballet” into the form of dance
that is now famous around the world.

「ballet　(バレエ)」という言葉は、どこから来ているかご存知ですか？
フランス語なのですが、元々は “balletto”というイタリア語で、「a little dance.」という意味です。
フランスに渡り、「ballet　（バレエ）」となり、また現在世界で知られている踊りのバレエとなったのです。
