but also in idioms. Here are some of the more common ways to use
this word:

In idioms it is usually used as a verb, rather than a noun:

Don’t bite my head off! (Bite someone’s head off)
I really should have bitten my tongue… (bite your tongue)
Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. (bite the hand that feeds you)
He has bitten off more than he can chew! (bite off more than one can chew)
