☆ commitment 　誓い

In a wedding ceremony, the bride and groom make a commitment
to each other. When the couple don’t want to get married, or
when they are of the same sex and not legally able to get married,
they can still make this commitment to each other, but it is not a
wedding ceremony, it is a “commitment ceremony.”

And commitment is not just used when talking about partners, you can
use it when you make a promise to do something – it can be a promise
to others, such as in a work situation, or a promise to yourself, such as
a New Year’s resolution.

Here are some examples:

At New Year, I made a commitment to study English every day.
I’m going to make a commitment not to gossip!
We made a commitment to keep working together.
I can’t go to the party after work because I made a commitment
to finish this project.

結婚式では、新郎新婦がお互いに誓いを立てます。
（法律上の）結婚はしたくない、または同性のカップルで法律的には結婚ができない場合でも、お互いにこの誓いを立てる事ができます。
これは「wedding ceremony (結婚式)」ではなく「commitment ceremony（誓約式）」と言います。

また、パートナーの話だけではなく、何かを約束する場合にも使います。
例えば、仕事で他の人に約束する時や、あなた自身へ約束する時にも使います。
例えば新年の抱負です。

例文：
At New Year, I made a commitment to study English every day.
正月に、毎日英語を勉強する新年の誓いを立てた。

I’m going to make a commitment not to gossip!
うわさ話をしないと、誓いを立てようと思います！

We made a commitment to keep working together.
一緒に働き続けようと誓いを立てた。

I can’t go to the party after work because I made a commitment
to finish this project.
このプロジェクトを終わらせる、と誓いを立てたので、今晩のパーティーに行けません。
