“Hang out” is mainly used by Americans, and it is informal.
When you use the past tense of this word, it becomes
“hung”. (Not “hanged” which is only used to refer to the way
a person is given the death penalty”) Here are some examples:

I like to hang out at the mall on weekends.
We hung out in Shinjuku last night.

By the way, there is a popular idiom using “hang out”. It’s is very
informal and with a slightly different nuance… instead of a “person”
hanging out, it is that person’s emotions hanging out.

“Let it all hang out”.

Have you ever heard it? It means to relax completely, and
enjoy yourself, without worrying about hiding your emotions.
