This month’s topic is about “Partner”,　and often people meet their
partner at work. They start dating and then they end up marrying
their colleague! This is quite a common scenario because as
adults it gets harder to meet people since we spend so much time
at work, right?

When I first came to Japan if a woman married her colleague, it
was common for her to quit her job. Is this still the case? In Australia,
it really depends on the company. Some companies don’t approve
of colleagues dating however, if they are serious and decide to get
married, they are usually happy to support the relationship. This might
mean that one person is transferred to another department, but
not always. And of course, neither person would be required to quit.

What’s the situation in Japan?

そして、職場でパートナーと出会うことはよくありますね。
同僚と付き合って最終的に同僚と結婚する！
このシチュエーションはきわめて一般的で、その理由は、大人になると仕事に費やす時間が多くて、出会いのチャンスをつかむのが難しいからですよね。

私が最初に日本に来た頃、女性が同僚と結婚したら、仕事を辞めるのが一般的でした。
まだそのような状況でしょうか？
オーストラリアでは、会社によって違います。
普通の会社は「付き合う」事には賛成しませんが、本気で付き合って結婚するつもりなら、会社は大抵の場合協力してくれます。
たまに、どちらか一方が他の部署に移動になりますが、そうではない場合が多いです。
そしてもちろん、どちらにも退職の必要はありません。

日本のいま状況はどうでしょう？
