☆ luggage 手荷物

Do you ever wonder if you should use the word “luggage” or
“baggage” in English? I do! Ha ha. The reason I wonder is
because I was born in England, grew up in Australia, and
have lived in America… so I’m confused!

British English: Luggage and baggage mean the suitcase and
the contents of them. Luggage is more common than baggage.

American English: Luggage is an empty suitcase. Baggage refers
to the suitcase and things in it.

Interesting! By the way, both of these are non-countable, too.
So you can’t say “luggages” or “a baggage”.

私はいつも混乱します！（笑）
なぜかといえば、私はイギリスで生まれ、オーストラリアで育ち、そしてアメリカに住んだこともあるからです。
だから、混乱するんです！

イギリス英語：
luggageもbaggageもスーツケースとその中身という意味です。
そして、luggageのほうが使われています。

アメリカ英語：
luggageは何も入っていないスーツケースのことです。
Baggageはスーツケースとその中身です。

おもしろいですね!　
ところで、luggageもbaggageも不可算名詞なので、”luggages”や”a baggage”のようには使えません。
