☆ thrift store 古着店

The Salvation Army store I talked about yesterday is
a kind of thrift store. Originally, a thrift store
was different from a used-clothing store because the
profits went to charity.

However, that meaning has changed a little recently,
and now thrift stores don’t necessarily give profits
to charity, but they do sell the clothes very cheaply.

Which was why the used-clothing stores in Tokyo surprised
me so much… the clothes are used, but so expensive!!
Sometimes the price of the new and used clothes was
the same! Why?!

昨日お話しした「救世軍が経営する小売店」は古着店の仲間ですね。
もともと「thrift store」は単なる古着屋さんとは違いました。
利益を寄付していたからです。

しかし、最近は意味も少し変わっていて、「thrift store」は必ずしも利益の寄付はしませんが、とても安く古着を売る店になっています。

ですから、東京にある古着店に入ってすごくビックリしたんです。
古着なのに、高い!
新しい洋服の値段と変わらない場合も多い!　なぜでしょう？！
