If you extend something, you make it last longer than before, or end at a later date. Usually you’d talk about extending deadlines, but you can also extend business hours or opening hours. In fact, in Australia, during December, the shops extend their business opening hours a lot – so that everyone has enough time to spend all their money on Christmas presents!! Ha ha

Are there any times of year when the shopping hours are extended for a special event? For example, New Year? Are the opening hours extended for Christmas? I can’t imagine that they would be, but maybe Christmas is becoming more popular so extending the shopping hours does happen?
