Have you ever done the “Discover Your Strengths” test using the Clifton Strengths Finder? It’s an online test that you can take (for free if you buy their book, or pay money if you don’t want to buy the book.) I did it a few years ago, and was quite surprised how accurate it was. One of my “top 5” strengths was “harmony”… at first I wasn’t sure what this meant, but basically, someone who is strong in “harmony” looks for areas of agreement. A bit like a peacekeeper, and they feel that conflict and friction are not useful.
I wondered if this was really me or not, but now that I have two young boys who fight a lot I know this is me! I always try to stop the fight before it escalates, to maintain harmony in the home, apparently though this isn’t a good idea! I’m supposed to let them fight and sort out the problem themselves. Sounds good in theory, but I’m not sure I’d be any good at ignoring the fights…
How about you? Do you think “harmony” is one of your strengths?
Bye,
Chris
PS. Don’t worry – my kids don’t fight that much – they do get along very well 90% of the time. 🙂
