When we talk about someone’s character, we are talking about their personality, in particular we use it to talk about how honest and reliable we think someone is. For example if you think someone is nice, then you would use “personality”, “she is friendly and has a nice personality.”
However, if you were describing someone, for example who was looking for a job at your company, you would want to know whether they are of good or bad character. In other words, are they honest or dishonest, reliable or unreliable? The meaning of “personality” and “character” are very close, but use “character” when you are in more formal situations.
