Someone who is courteous is polite and respectful to other people. I would say that Japanese people are generally courteous – it’s a stereotype, but I think it is true of Japanese people. On the other hand, traveling in the US and even in Australia, people are generally friendly but not all that courteous. What about your experience? Would you say that Japanese people are courteous? What about other nationalities?
Forbes business magazine does a yearly survey of expats (people living and working abroad) and most recently it found that New Zealand, Australia and Canada were the friendliest places to live. I definitely agree that Australians are friendly, but courteous? I’m not sure… ha ha
