☆ interpretation  解釈
============================
You probably know this word as a verb, “to interpret” which can mean to translate from Japanese to English. It has another meaning as a verb, too, and that is to “decide the meaning or significance of something”. As a noun, today’s word, your “interpretation” of something is your opinion of what it means. Here are some examples:
The government has put a different interpretation on the figures. (Meaning the government has analyzed the figures and said that they mean something that is favorable to them!)
The data is open to interpretation. (Meaning there is not just one way to talk about the data, there could be many different explanation.)
There are a lot of different interpretations of the bible and what it means.
From these examples, you can see that we should use the word “interpretation” when we want to talk about an explanation or analysis of something.
Bye,
