☆ volunteer　ボランティアをする

Last July my son started elementary school. His teacher was new to teaching reception students. She usually taught grade 3 students, so this was a tough time for her I think! She had lots of active boys who were new to school, and didn’t know the “rules” of how to sit quietly and listen to the teacher for example.
And so to help her she asked for some parents to volunteer. I volunteered every Friday morning, helping the kids with their activities, listening to them read, and so on. I was happy to volunteer as it meant I could see what kinds of things my son was doing in school and get to meet his friends… but I’m not sure that I would want to volunteer every year!! Is there a similar system in Japan, where the parents volunteer to help the teachers in the class room?
