☆ metaphor　（隠喩としての）象徴

Writers and story-tellers use metaphors a lot in order help people
understand something more deeply or more easily. An easy example,
is to describe someone who is frightened as being like a “mouse”. This
is a very straightforward metaphor. Often though, metaphors are much
deeper and can help us create big changes in our lives.

Sometimes we talk about “mixing metaphors” which is when people
use two conflicting metaphors in their message. Sometimes this is
deliberate, in order to be funny. Sometimes it is actually a mistake and
the person doesn’t know they are mixing their metaphors.

Are metaphors popular in Japanese writing and storytelling? What kinds
of metaphors are most used?

作家や、ストーリー・テラーは、読者がより良く理解するために隠喩としての象徴をよく使います。
簡単な例を挙げると、“ねずみ”のように怯えていた、などという使い方をします。
これは分かりやすい比喩ですね。
しかし大方において、比喩や隠喩としての象徴はとても深いもので、人生が大きく変わるものもあります。

メッセージの中にふたつの複雑な比喩を使うことを混喩と言います。
よく考えて言わないと面白くなりませんね。
時には、実際に間違った事を言い、相手の人が比喩を合わせて使っていると気付かないこともあります。

日本でものを書いたりストーリーを話したりする時にも比喩をよく使いますか？
