☆ knit 編む

When you knit or crochet, the loop that you create with the wool
is called a “stitch”. Many of my friends like to knit, and they often
gather together to have knitting parties! This knitting party is called
a “Stitch ‘n’ Bitch”… Have you ever heard of this? It’s famous
worldwide (http://stitchnbitch.org/ if you like to knit you might already
know about this.)

Basically a group of (usually) women gather together to knit, and
“bitch” – which is a very informal way of saying, “chat” although
the nuance of bitch is closer to “complain”. What are they bitching
about? Their jobs, boyfriends, husbands, life in general! All while
enjoying their hobby of knitting and often while drinking wine…

Makes me wish I liked knitting!

「Knit　(編みもの)」やかぎ針編みをする時に、毛糸で作る輪のことを「stitch　(ステッチ)」と言います。
わたしの友達は、編み物好きの人が多く、よく一緒に集まって編み物パーティをしています。この編み物パーティは、“Stitch ‘n’ Bitch”というものですが、ご存知ですか？
世界的に有名な集まりです。

要は、編み物をするために(通常)女性が集まることと、“bitch”をかけているのです。「Bitch」は、「chat　(チャット)」の非常に砕けた言い回しですが、どちらかと言うと「文句を言う」というニュアンスに近いですね。
さて、何について文句を言っているのでしょう？
仕事、恋人、夫、人生など？趣味の編み物をしながら、そして時にはワインを飲みながらね。

わたしも編み物をしてみたくなりました！
