I’ve always wondered why the Japanese katakana word for cards is “trump”… do you know why?

In English, the trump card is the winning card. Many hundreds of years ago, there was a card game called “triumph” which go shortened to “trump”. So I guess that is where the Japanese word came from? Do you know if this is right or not? If you know, please let me know on Facebook!
